Sex & Nudity: A few kissing scenes between Hiccup and Astrid, and between Stoick and Valka, who are husband and wife.
After seeing Valka explain why she hasn't returned, Gobber says "That's why I never got married. That and one other reason." Craig Ferguson, the voice actor, has stated that the line was meant to imply the character is homosexual. Most young children will probably miss the implication, and nothing more is said about the matter
Violence & Gore: There are several extended battle scenes. There is a fair amount of violence and implied casualties, but no gore. most of the violence is in PG form,
Profanity: Very mild expletives such as 'oh my gods'.
Astrid calls Eret a "steaming pile of dragon shit"
Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: None
Frightening/Intense Scenes: The film takes a darker, more mature approach than the first film, dealing with issues such as family hardships, war, dictatorship, and poaching of animals, among others.
Compared to the first film, there are more frequent and more intense action scenes. This includes battles where casualties occur, although deaths are more implied than shown.
There is a character who is missing an arm, and his stub is shown, which could frighten younger children.
Some of the new dragons, particularly the massively large ones, may frighten younger children.
Story: It's been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and Vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snotlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island's new favourite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the centre of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons.
Likes : How to Train your Dragon 2 is a shining perfect example of what family movies and animated films are capable of when they are done right. What special about this film is the fact this is not same story rehashed over again its complete new with a bigger story, With new characters, added drama that give the main character more emotional involvement , the action doubled & the comedy is even more funnier.
This film truly does what any sequel should do step up to its predecessor in every way possible, and respects its audience enough not to shy away from its darker and more dramatic content this time around, but still remain viewable and entertaining for all audiences.
This is Dream works film after all, this is family entertainment at it best, after the success of the first how to train your dragon which i loved this was no surprise on just how well this film is made, this one is as ive said before is slightly darker in tone with a bit of a emotional concept as a family reunite only to be heart broken so there many be some tears in part of the film.
This is family safe although some scene may frighten the younger viewers as the big dragon may look a bit frighten to a younger viewer, but as of the rest of the film its OK. This is a beautiful stunning film with lovable character full of colour with there own personality which make it more entertaining watch. The voice acting is perfect as it was with the first film return Jay Baruchel voice as Hiccup, Gerard Butler voice of Stoick, Craig Ferguson voice of Gobber , America Ferrera voice of Astrid, Jonah Hill voice of Snotlout, Christopher Mintz-Plasse voice as Fishlegs, T.J. Miller voice as Tuffnut, Kristen Wiig voice as Ruffnut with three new character Cate Blanchett voice as Valka, Djimon Hounsou voice as Drago & Kit Harington voice as Eret add to what is a brilliant family film that fun for all the film. This is a film i highly recommend for all the family to watch.
