Film Review: You're Next

Genre:  Comedy Horror Thriller,  warning this film dose have some scene that mite make your stomach churn

Cert:  18 cert

Parents advised to read before viewing film as some scene may contain scenes unsuitable for younger viewers.

Sex & Nudity: We see two pairs of clothed legs and feet through a bedroom door and hear grunting as the legs move in a kind of thrusting motion; we then see an older man having sex with a younger woman, thrusting and grunting and when he stops and goes to take a shower she glares at him (he is seen wearing shorts only and she wears an open shirt that reveals her breasts) while pulling her panties up over her knees; scantily dressed, she walks around the house with her shirt unbuttoned and her breasts exposed.
In a bloody bedroom, a man and a woman sit on a bed and she asks for sex while pulling off her sweater and revealing her bra that shows some cleavage; she says that she wants to have sex with the man, while in the bed with his dead mother (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details) and he becomes disgusted, refuses her and walks out.
In a bedroom, a woman wearing only a bra and panties stands at a sink when her clothed husband unhooks her bra to reveal bare breasts and she re-hooks it, denying him sex.
A shower scene features an overweight man from the waist up and we see his bare chest, back, arms and shoulders; later in a partial side view, we see him sitting on a couch with only a towel over the thigh nearest the camera and in a later frontal view, the large towel is across his lap.
A man and a woman kiss briefly.
A man and a woman sleep together and reference living together while at a family reunion; another man and a woman are in similar circumstances.
We hear that an older man left his wife for a young college co-ed.
A man says to his brother, "Don't kiss my wife! Gross."

Violence & Gore: (spoiler alert if you have seen this film yet don't read this) In a heavily wooded area, two houses are invaded by three people wearing animal masks (a wolf, a lamb and a tiger) and carrying axes, a machete, a crossbow and an automatic rifle; they attack the occupants of both houses, killing nearly every one of a dozen people and many scenes are filled with smashed and slashed bodies that are seen lying in pools of blood; several close-ups of attacks feature slit throats, gushing blood, gagging and deaths on screen; before the killings, the occupants of the two houses hear footsteps, creaking noises and other noises that grow progressively louder along with seeing reflections of animal masks in windows while a screaming-loud rock song plays on the stereo nonstop for days in the home of a dead couple.
A woman lures a man into a basement after breaking out the light bulbs and standing in the dark while taking successive flash pictures with her digital camera; the man approaches slowly, becomes blinded by the flashes and flails about, confused before the woman beats him to death with household implements (blood spatters the walls and the man's head and upper body resemble bloody hamburger).
A man enters a house by breaking a window and receives a butcher knife through the eye; he screams, leaves and returns while swinging an axe at a woman and lodging it in the floor until she kills him using a meat tenderizer, hitting him violently in the head and face two dozen times (we see that his head resembles bloody sliced meat and the floors and walls are blood spattered).
As a loud stereo plays, a man finds his girlfriend lying dead in a pool of blood and on a glass patio door is smeared "YOU'RE NEXT" in blood; a close-up shows the man startle and scream as a hand and arm wield a machete toward him and the camera cuts to the man's throat spurting blood (more blood spatters on the glass door).
A woman runs out the front door of a house in an attempt to get a car and return for the remaining guests and as she runs out, she falls, choking and gurgling; we see a metal line attached to the outside doorframe at throat level and we see the slit in her throat as she grabs it, and falls and bleeds to death while others scream.
A male houseguest walks to window in the dining room and a crossbow bolt flies into the shattering window as the camera cuts to other guests, then back to the window where we see the bolt in the man's forehead and blood streaming down his face; the guests scream, shout and shake as the first man drops to the floor, dead, and additional bolts fly through shattering windows, breaking vases, mirrors and photo portrait glass; the women take cover under tables and pull the arguing men down with them using dining room chairs as shields to run into another room; a bolt hits a man in the shoulder, causing a large amount of blood loss and screaming while we hear automatic gunfire off screen and we see party guests' bloody hands trying to pull the bolt from the shot man's back, but failing (later, the man pulls the bolt out himself and faints).
A man fires a crossbow bolt through a house window toward a woman standing inside; she falls and the man and another woman rush through the window and find no one in the room; they enter the kitchen, where the woman is struck with a meat tenderizer in the head; the man with her stabs the attacker in the shoulder with a knife and she throws oil on him; he curses, slips and falls as she smashes a glass blender into his face, producing bloody cuts; the other woman bites her on the hand (she screams and groans) and the first woman plugs in the blender motor and grinds it into the top of the man's head (we see gushing blood and he dies); the second woman attempts to attack the first woman and she pulls the knife from her own shoulder and stabs it into the top of the head of her attacker, killing her.
A man takes his hysterical wife to an upstairs bedroom to rest, leaving her crying on the bed when a hand appears from under the bed, and a man slides out and stands; the woman sees him and screams as he swings an axe at something off screen and we then see the woman in bed, dead, with an axe buried in her eye and cheek and blood pooling on the pillow and sheets; later, her husband enters the room and his throat is slit from behind (he gasps, gurgles and falls dead into a pool of blood); we see the bloody, dripping words "YOU'RE NEXT" on one wall.
A woman runs to a neighbor's house to escape, but no one answers the door; a masked man punches her hard in the face, throwing her through shattering window glass and while cut and bleeding on her hands and face, she drags herself through broken glass when she sees a dead man with a bloody throat and screams; we see a man in the house as he takes a golf swing using an axe toward something off screen and the camera cuts to the woman on the floor, bleeding from larger cuts on her throat and chest (she's dead).
A man stalks a woman in a house at night and she dives out an upper story window landing on her back; she grunts and removes a shard of glass from her thigh, wraps the leg with a scarf and limps away to a tree; she sees bloody screwdrivers sticking out of a body partially covered by leaves as a crossbow bolt flies into a tree trunk just above her head.
Three men and a woman chase a second woman through a wooded area and into a house; one man enters the house, stepping down on nail points under a window and screams and curses; he pulls his foot off the bloody nails and limps away, stalking the woman who jumps out from cover and stabs the man many times in the head with a screwdriver, killing him.
A man attempts to threaten and bribe a woman, but she stabs him behind the ear, in the neck and in the eye with a knife (blood pours as he falls dead).
A man stalks a woman and chops down a door; she stabs him with a screwdriver and beats him in the head before escaping.
A man stabs another man with six different screwdrivers, shouting, "Would you just die already" and leaving them in place, covering the man in blood as he falls dead.
A police officer shoots a woman defending herself against an attacker in the shoulder.
A police officer opens a front door and a woman shouts not to come in when a weighted axe swings down toward the officer; the screen goes black as we hear a "swoosh."
A man carrying an axe enters a house and cries over another man that he finds dead; he overturns a dinner table, breaking many plates and glasses and splattering food.
A woman looks under a bed, sees a man in wearing an animal mask and screams extraordinarily loudly as she escapes.
A wife cries in fear in an old house, having heard footsteps; her husband takes a cane and walks upstairs where he is grabbed by the shoulder by his adult son and both are startled.
A woman sits between two sitting dead bodies with blood splatter covering the stove and cabinets when the cell phone in the pocket of one of the bodies rings; the woman opens the phone, but says nothing as a man on the talks thinking he is speaking to the dead person.
Dozens of snapshots of beaten and hacked up murder victims and thugs drenched in blood are shown in groups of four and five together.
A woman gathers up all the butcher knives, cleavers, meat tenderizers, hammers, screwdrivers and other heavy utensils in a house, passing them out for party guests to use as weapons; one man takes a cleaver and runs outside while the others lock all the windows, hammer nails through boards and place them point-sides up at the entrances and on the floor under windows; the first woman ties a brick to an axe and rigs it up over the front door to kill an attacker while another woman unlocks a second entrance door to allow marauders safe entrance.
A man finds a bottle of urine in a closet where a killer had been sleeping.
A woman at a mirror over a bathroom sink picks at facial spots, but we see no pimple debris.
Three brothers argue loudly and continually, including at a large dinner party; they also taunt and belittle a male houseguest about his profession as a filmmaker.
Two brothers argue in a basement while looking for tools to use as weapons.
A man wearing an animal mask argues with an unmasked man about how much will be paid for murders.
A woman at a party where several people were attacked mentions that she was raised in a survivalist compound in the Australian outback.

Name-calling (fascists, fat, dumb, crazy, insane and lowlife.)
Stereotypical references to men, women, families, siblings, greedy relatives, hired assassins, inept police, rich business people and depressed mothers.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking:We hear that a woman is on psychiatric medications.
A man asks his wife, "Do you have any Vicodin?" and she replies that it is in her purse.
A man pulls out some medication and swallows a pill.
A man takes a Vicodin tablet for pain caused by an arrow through his shoulder.

A man later finds the cocktail on a table and takes a drink from it.

A man drinks a bottle of beer at a family party.
A man pours several glasses of wine for a dinner-party table and men and women drink from them.
A man tells his girlfriend that she can quit her bartending job.
A woman smokes a cigarette outside a house

Frightening/Intense Scenes:  The film features scenes of extreme violence and gore. In addition, it also shows emotionally disturbing moments.
All the film keeps you in tension.
There are few scares and black humor.
It is definitely not a movie suitable for children or for a public with a weak stomach.

Story: When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped... until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

Likes : 'You're Next' follows a dysfunctional family as they fight for survival when their house is invaded by armed intruders. I was quite looking forward to You're Next basically because of the hype and the way the trailer was put together.
But who ever say this film was brilliantly made sadly they would be wrong, this film had some flaws & some scene you find your saying (WTF) because the scene are so diabolical & stupid you think to your self this family deserve to die just for that alone. Now im a big fan of horror film's this is quiet a slasher film but not good of one as it predictable in so many parts the end you completely see coming.
Sharni Vinson character Erin was a pretty convincing performance special when she finally finds out whats going on & go physio she dose a pretty good at screw up the plans as well in this film. But as i said this film although has good point there are some bad points to this film.

Dislikes : Like i said this is very predictable, there arnt any surprise in this film to which you can say wow i didn't see that coming.
There is one scene it take's the family 5 mins to react & sink in after watching the event that has happen before they started screaming, like it was a delay reaction which looks so false & fake acting its just ruin it there for me.
There is other scene (spoiler alert) When one of the killer get stab in the back he gets hurt but instead of the bother with the axe & the Erin with a knife killing him they let him run out the door WTH is up with that scene seriously this is why this film failed for most parts.

Overall : Don't expect much of a horror film as it pretty average & diabolical & stupid at times

Rating: 3.2 out of 5 for entertainment / 5 out of 10 for story-line & acting
