Story: Deep into a solo voyage in the Indian Ocean, an unnamed man (Redford) wakes to find his 39-foot yacht taking on water after a collision with a shipping container left floating on the high seas. With his navigation equipment and radio disabled, the man sails unknowingly into the path of a violent storm. Despite his success in patching the breached hull, his mariner's intuition and a strength that belies his age, the man barely survives the tempest. Using only a sextant and nautical maps to chart his progress, he is forced to rely on ocean currents to carry him into a shipping lane in hopes of hailing a passing vessel. But with the sun unrelenting, sharks circling and his meager supplies dwindling, the ever-resourceful sailor soon finds himself staring his mortality in the face.

Likes : Outstanding performance from Robert Redford, in this gripping ,over hyped film that had no balance in its pace as the film seem to drag on a little bit, to be honest this was better than the life of P.I but still not the greatest film's to watch.
As most film like this like Tom Hanks makes friends with a volleyball in cast away. In The Old Man and the Sea, Spencer Tracy talks to the whale. Gravity, Sandra Bullock talks to George Clooney ... even when he isn't really there! It takes the great Robert Redford to show us how to face isolation with dignity and silence (save one well-deserved F-word) when things go wrong, this film was intense in some part you kind of find your self wonder will he survive.
This film would of been good as a short film but as a long feature film that nearly 1 1/2 hours long is a bit to much as this film seriously drag's long at a slow pace, the only reason why we know he there is the fact he running away from family problems as at the begin you here him saying sorry about  something but you don't know why this is kind of why your wondering why he sorry & what for.

Dislikes : i wouldn't believe the hype about this film oh god this film was complete slow it made life of pi bad for it, the film drag on so slow you wonder when is this film going to end.
Don't get me wrong Redford is a good actor he play this role well, but its a let down on writing & script of this film, there was no direction what so ever other than he was running away from he family & gets in to trouble when he boat hit a containing in the middle of the Indian ocean.
To make thing worst a storm sink he boat leave in a drift in a life raft, its like this for the whole film with no dialog or plot line this is why this film would have been better as short film rather that a full length feature film.

Overall : No pace very slow film, Redford dose a good job but this film is a disappointment.

Rating: 3.1 out of 5 for entertainment / 4.6 out of 10 for story- line
