Sex & Nudity: No nudity or sex.
Violence & Gore: Not much violence and gore. Much of it is just suggested. Ghosts with injuries.
The ghosts are not immediately apparent since much of the gruesomeness of modern ghost movies is intentionally not present. When a person is actually revealed to be a ghost, it essentially is done in a sympathetic tone rather than in schlock gore.
A man is shot through the chest. Multiple ghostly characters with blood stains and one missing an arm.
Many people seen lying in a pool of blood; no injuries shown.
Bad guys shoot up a mall but nobody is actually shown getting hit.
Profanity: 4 uses of s**t, 4 uses of hell, 1 use of damn, 2 uses of goddamn, 2 uses of bulls**t, and 2 uses of a**
Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: Some, Mild
Frightening/Intense Scenes: The demons and dead people are scary and throughout the movie.
Some things going bump, and surprises behind the door type moments, with a good mix of tension building towards the climax.
Story: Small-town fry cook Odd Thomas (Anton Yelchin) is an ordinary guy with a paranormal secret: he sees dead people, everywhere. When a creepy stranger shows-up with an entourage of ghostly bodachs - predators who feed on pain and portend mass destruction - Odd knows that his town is in serious trouble. Teaming up with his sweetheart Stormy (Addison Timlin) and the local sheriff (Willem Dafoe), Odd plunges into an epic battle of good vs evil to try to stop a disaster of apocalyptic proportions. Based on the best-selling thriller by Dean Koontz.
Likes : I never got around to watch this film when it came out & some one mention it being a good,so i thought i give it a view see what it was like im glad i did , ive never read the novels on odd Thomas but this film as that entertainment value to it that most people will enjoy very much.
Its easy to follow right off the bat you get to understand Thomas character as you get (Anton Yelchin) who play odd Thomas narrative his life story, which i loved because it set up the base of the whole film to which you can understand what is going on, where most other film like this leave you with unanswered question when you don't have this.
From what ive seen of reviews from most that have read the book there is a few thing missing or didn't get added which thing unclear as ive not read the book, but for the film on its own this is a very well written film with a few creepy moments that will make you jump or give you chill's,were other moments will make you laugh. One thing i noticed as well is the great chemistry with the main actor such as Willem Dafoe who plays Chief Wyatt Porter bring a brilliant performance as usual, the beautiful Addison Timlin who play the girlfriend of Thomas Stormy Llewellyn who on screen presence really pulls of the lovable cute girlfriend really well for a believable performance, as well as the other actors all in all well scripted & character writing is perfect which is very rare, but its why it make this film really good.
The demonic design C.G.I looks very weird & scary in some way special with the way they more, not being seen but other but the way they portray them in this film is clever it shows a real insight for demons lust for blood & chaos. With this film I was shocked and impressed at the same time as i actually wasn't expecting the last plot twist which really made this film brilliant as i never saw it coming, normal i pick up on thing like that so well played to the director for hiding that.
This is a film i recommend to fan's of the novel or if your not a fan your still love this film for it entertainment value, because this film is really enjoyable to watch.
Dislikes : From my point of view there isn't anything wrong with this film, but some that have read the book would probable find some fault in it tho
Overall : good movie, good adaptation. Moving a story from a book to a movie always presents problems; always there will be portions of the story and significant nuances left out. This is no exception
Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment / 8 out of 10 for storyline / concept
