Likes : For what this film is, i wouldn't call it a horror film as it doesn't really come across as a horror, it more of a dramatic thriller with some slight disturbing moments.
One of the most disturbing things about this film is Samantha Morton's performance play the mother which was just outstanding. she came across very chilling & a little unhinged in her behaviour which best describe her character like Annie Wilkes that Kathy Bates played in the film Misery, so many of her scenes you were like wow you kind of thrown back on just how frightening she becomes.there were a few shades of her performance in Elizabeth the golden age in this film which added to the character chilling attitude.
Best way i could describe this film is like Hansel & Gretel" meets "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, it has that slight homely feel to start with but then you start notice things aren't what they seem to be this is where this film take on a very dark twisted unnerving feeling which really leave it mark.
Michael Shannon performance is top notch as well playing the father who a slight low-key empathetic guy who trying to coupe with no only a sick child but an unhinged wife, the way he come across on screen is just nothing short of brilliant acting.
Good thing about this film is its twist which might come across confusing or predictable but none the less seriously leave you with a shocking twist which cleverly keep you watching to the very end.Charlie Tahan a gifted young actor to watch i the future as he's performance play sick child was just so believable in his actor you actual believe he's character is i'll, accompanying him is another young actress to look out for Natasha Calis who play the young girl that just moved to the area who befriends him, her performance is just amazing, Appearance of legend actor Peter Fonda playing the grandfather was a welcome touch to the film even for a cameo role. This is a film i recommend looking for & watching as it one of those film that dosent look like much but certainly dose leave it mark.

Dislikes : The story not to bad, but it was lacking the horror theme like i said its more of a dramatic thriller than a horror film so i would expect much of a horror theme here.

Overall : disturbing in some places, very dark & twist at moments, performance are brilliant. worth watching.

Rating: 4.3 out of 5 for entertainment / 7 out of 10 for concept.
