Sex & Nudity: Sonja wears some clingy outfits with low-cut necklines. In her home, we see her bare shoulders and camisole's spaghetti straps. To convince her hard-working and reluctant husband to take the family on a much needed vacation, she whispers something sexually suggestive in his ear (we can't hear it), and he immediately changes his mind. Elsewhere, Todd and Sonja are physically affectionate.
Violence & Gore: Todd slides into third base during a church softball game, resulting in a sickening crunch and what appears to be a severely broken leg. We see him writhing in pain on the ground and glimpse the bloody wound.
Defending her little brother from taunts at school, Cassie hits two bullies in the face. She's disciplined by the school, but Dad expresses nothing but pride in her. Laughing off the Bible's admonition to turn the other cheek, he says he's going to need to teach her how to hit without hurting her hand.
In a moment of deep frustration, Sonja angrily hurls a glass into the kitchen sink, where it shatters.
Profanity: One use each of "heck" and "oh my gosh."
Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: none
Frightening/Intense Scenes: The baseball game scene is intense, boy in hospital maybe disturbing for some viewers.
Story: Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling book of the same name, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL brings to the screen the true story of a small-town father who must find the courage and conviction to share his son's extraordinary, life-changing experience with the world. The film stars Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® award winning actor Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo and co-stars Kelly Reilly as Sonja Burpo, the real-life couple whose son Colton (newcomer Connor Corum) claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth ... things he couldn't possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event.
Likes : I'm not a religious person never will be, but i feel this film is under-rated as a drama film as it's a very heart-warming story based of a true life event of one boy who fell sick by the powers that be he found himself in heaven which is beautiful represented in this film.
i feel alot of these bad reviews for this type of film are because alot of people have lost their compassion for things & have become selfish & self centre to see the world that this film represents, i feel this film is beautiful made & did at some points have my in tears as ive had a son that was in hospital fighting for his life, trust me to though that have gone through this can understand the pain of going though something like that, as it not easy.
The acting is perfect for a believable characters special Greg Kinnear i think he nail this role as a parent brilliantly as he give a believable performance of a father on the verge of losing his son, as well as his co-star Kelly Reilly who play he wife Sonja Burpo who also bring a perfect performance. One thing i like in his film is it brought a little bit of light humour in the scene with the boy in heaven which was cute & funny.
i will say though this is a film best suit to though of a religious nature as this is heavy in religion but this film wont before everyone, unless you love the heart-warming mellow drama story-line.I will recommend this film to drama film fans as its a very heart felt storyline that will warm your heart & make you cry its not as bad as people make it out to be but not every film is for everyone.
Dislikes : Nothing wrong with this film.
Overall : very heart-warming, based of a true story, great film for drama film fans
Rating: 4.3 out of 5 for entertainment / 6.8 out of 10 for story-line
