Film Review: Need for Speed

Genre: Action Crime Drama

Cert: this film was given a 12A but i think it should of been an 18 cert due to some scene

Director: Scott Waugh

Screen writer: George Gatins, John Gatins

Starring: Aaron Paul , Dominic Cooper , Imogen Poots , Scott Mescudi , Rami Malek , Ramon Rodriguez , Harrison Gilbertson , Dakota Johnson , Stevie Ray Dallimore , Michael Keaton.

Running time: 132 min

Parents advised to read before viewing film as some scene may contain scenes unsuitable for younger viewers.

Sex & Nudity: A man quits his office job and disrobes on his way out of the office, left wearing socks and boxers only, and he kisses a woman coworker passionately as a "goodbye"; he removes his boxers below screen and walks into the hallway where we see him nude from the back (except for socks) and in a glass elevator with a woman he asks if she is bored at work and she says, "Yes"; she then looks down at his groin (off-screen) as he says, "It's cold in here" and we see his bare upper chest and shoulders as he walks with a friend outside and other men and women stare at him (while chasing his friend, we see his bare back, buttocks and legs).
A woman wiggles her little finger in the air and says that an overcompensating man (implying small genitals) needs a souped-up car.

Violence & Gore: When Tobey goes the wrong way on a freeway (sometimes the racers get up to speeds of 270 mph), the results are predictably destructive. Dino purposefully bumps Petey's car, sending it flipping into the air. Many rolls later and on fire, it flies off a bridge, then explodes. Tobey clips a homeless man's grocery cart, destroying it (and prompting jokes about it).
One cataclysmic street skirmish, this time with police in Detroit, gets filmed and uploaded to YouTube. The reward for all the recklessness? Monarch sees the clip and welcomes Tobey to participate in the DeLeon.
Thugs try to force Tobey and Julia off the road, using shotgun blasts to "persuade" them. Several of those attackers, not surprisingly, end up dying in explosive crashes. A crash in California flips the car Tobey and Julia are in, bloodying both of them and landing Julia in the hospital with a broken arm and concussion. Tobey ties a chain to a policeman's car, ripping off the rear axle of the vehicle when he tries to pursue.
The DeLeon race obliterates five of the six cars participating in it, along with numerous pursuing police cars. Several of the crashes involving the police are quite serious, and we hear radio calls for aid for the injured officers.
After dragging Dino from the burning wreckage of his flipped Lamborghini, Tobey makes sure he's OK then punches him in the face.

Profanity:  9 scatological terms, 5 anatomical terms, 15 mild obscenities, 7 religious exclamations (Oh My God, God, Jesus, Godspeed, Holy Shit and exclamations (shut-up.)
Name-calling (crazy, insane, stupid, maniac, ladies [said to men], Mr. Strong and Silent, redneck, liar, ex-con, trolls, tart, douche bag, Smokey and nimrod.)
Stereotypical references to blue collar workers, corrupt businessmen, the rich, men, women, the British, police officers and prisoners.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: Empty beer bottles sit in Tobey's shop. We see folks drinking wine and champagne.

Frightening/Intense Scenes:  The characters are usually in peril
Almost every car crash in the film is intense and/or disturbing.

Story: Framed by an ex-partner for a murder he did not commit, Tobey Marshall, a financially struggling custom-car builder and street-racer, spends two years in jail thinking about one moment. Fresh out of prison he reacquires the fastest car his workshop ever built and sold, and seeks to enter a secretive and extremely high-stakes race known as The DeLeon. His purpose; redemption, recognition from the world of racing and to solve his problems. Yet all this fades in comparison to his driving reason. Revenge. Above all, revenge. This is a story about love, redemption, revenge and motor oil all swirled together, but above all; It's a story about fast, fast cars

Likes : A lot of people would probable compare this film to fast & furious but this make fast & furious like a video because of the fact this film has no used C.G.I the stunts are real which makes this an outstanding film with a storyline.
Lots of people have give this film bad reviews, but this is surprisingly a good film to watch as it take you on a fast pace journey of revenge for the death of a friend by the hands of  former friend played by Dominic Cooper. There is never a dole moment in this film as it keep you watch & you never get bored once, the acting is fantastic, the action is fast & intense, and the soundtrack and effects were spot on, never hardly need any c.g.i from a game adaptation this is the first game film that has worked.
Aaron Paul is a brilliant actor after seeing him in 300:rise of empire, seeing him in the role is brilliant in this film, , he proves that he is an amazing actor with great things ahead of him. Another surprise here is Kid Cudi, who gives a light hearted touch to the rough and tough story of revenge of need for speed while Michael Keaton is another welcomed addition to this film as he lets the viewer get a better idea of who our anti-hero, Toby Marshall, truly is.
Dominic Cooper is slightly the down side of the film, unfortunately he doesn't quiet come off on screen as the bad guy with a typical evil billionaire performance which i don't think he pulled off so well, but it is just enough to overlook. The gorgeous Imogen Poots character Julia Maddon in this film is wise cracking girl that pretend to be this rich spoilt girl but underneath she a gear head & know alot about cars who gets drag in to a fast pace revenge on intense car chase's while falling for  Aaron Paul character Tobey Marshall. She is a brilliant actress with those strike blue eyes that make her a very beautiful woman.
This will be a film your iver like or hate, but i feel this film will be for people that love fast cars, fast pace action & great storyline, this film has, this is a film i recommend watching if you haven't already seen it, well paced film, great acting brilliant made as ive said easy the best adaptation from a video game.

Dislikes : Only probable is cast Dominic Cooper for this film, he not a bad actor but for this role he just didn't suit the role.

Overall : Great acting, face pace action, great story of revenge with car theme

Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment / 8.4 out of 10 for storyline.
