Frightening/Intense Scenes: All the violence described above, especially the female orca's miscarriage, can be extremely frightening. It is all harsh and brutal.

Likes : JAWS with intelligence!!!!!!! For year ive wanted to watch this film but never got around to watching it's as it came out when i was born 1977 as this got allot of mixed reviews & so much hate review on it about it ripping off jaws.
Upon viewing this film for the first time yes i can say it heavily influenced from the jaws film just in a different way but from the boat scene & the horror moments, to compare the two jaws dose have the edge of suspense & horror as Orca is slightly predictable but orca make up for it in story line, instead of a shark that is just killing for the sake of killing, the killer whale is killing for a reason which give this film an edge over jaws, some may say its a rip off of jaws but i say this has a better story-line behind it than jaws not that jaws wasn't a great film because it was, but this just had that something extra.
In the beginning of the film it introduce the audience in to a tight family group of the killer whale you are actually given real fact about them which in very surprised with, but then the audience in trusted in this disturbing & quiet frighten scene which give the audience this shock factor, but unlike jaws where you routing for the people survive against a man eating shark, this film actual has you routing for the killer whale which is a clever & different way of filming a jaws like film because you actual feeling sorry for him & understand why & what happening is justified.
The acting is not bad for 1977 film, most of these actor & actress are Hollywood greatest like Richard Harris, Bo Derek & Charlotte Rampling with co star Will Sampson who you will recognize as the tribal Indian Taylor in the 1982 poltergeist & 1985 Poltergeist II: The Other Side.
Despite some of the flaws this film had this is a pretty good film, i think back in 1977 when jaws first came out i can imagine this film would have been scary to audiences back then, so ya i recommend watching this old classic film if you haven't already.

Dislikes : Some scene are overused sometime as some scene look the same cut scene which i assume was to saving money like most of the 70s & 80s film's they tend to use a cut scene over & over again in place's which didn't overly ruin the film as it kept the film rolling along at a stead pace. This really was the only flaws in the film.

Overall : Great story, Not quiet like jaws in horror but still a great film of it own,

Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment / 7.1 out of 10 for story / concept
