Likes : The Prestige is a masterful exercise in storytelling with superb direction and powerful performances by a grand ensemble cast. From set and production design to cinematography, from script to presentation, Christopher Nolan has once again demonstrated why he is one of the film world's brightest up and coming directors. The Prestige only helps solidify his standing as one of the landmark directors of his generation.
The success of an act of illusion solely depends upon the deftness with which its three parts viz. the Pledge, the Turn, and the Prestige are performed. Similarly, for a movie to be a success, its three main aspects i.e. screenplay, direction, and acting are ought to be top-notch. Christopher Nolan incredibly manages to strike all the right cords with The Prestige.
The movie is a roller-coaster of a ride with intriguingly intertwined subplots and masterful time switching, which makes it one of a kind and an ultimate masterpiece as it take you on one direction, then throw you in another leaves you think what the hell is going on right to the end of the film where the film reveal's the direction & the prestige of the final act in the film that you don't see coming.
Through the the film you cant help but think by the end of the film that Michael Caine character was the true mastermind in the end just by he way it ended, Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) and Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) at the start of their careers are highly ambitious young men assisting an elderly illusionist named Milton. Borden's incessant longing for innovation leads to the accidental death of Angier's wife. This is where this film take on that dark obsession & deception concept as Huge Jackman's character become obsessed with Christian Bale characters magic tricks which become a dark dangerous obsession that lends to a dark road.
Alot of people don't seem to like Scarlett Johansson but i happen o think she a great actress although a little weak in some roles but that down to not being giving the right role but she brilliant in a supporting roles like this also supporting role ingenious scientist named Nikola Tesla played by (David Bowie) who dose a fantastic performance & fitted the odd scientist which they call the wizard.
This is a film i recommend you watch if you haven't already watched this, you wont be disappointed as this is a rare & beautiful made film from Christopher Nolan.
